Download Fest to hit four cities over four days
Modest Mouse , Incubus , The Cure and The Shins highlight four separate lineups of this year's Download Festival as it expands to four different cities around the country.
The "interactive" festival, as the organizers term it, will hit Mansfield, MA (Aug. 18), George, WA (Aug. 25), Troy, WI (near Chicago) (Sept. 2), and Mountain View, CA)(Oct. 6). Modest Mouse will headline the Boston-area show and co-headline the Washington State show along with Incubus. The Shins will get top billing at the Wisconsin stop, and The Cure will close the Mountain View date.
Other performers include Wolf Parade and Band of Horses in both Boston and Wisconsin, The Thermals and Nada Surf in Washington State, and A.F.I. and Kings of Leon in Mountain View, which is a suburban area south of San Francisco. The full lineups for each city are available at the festival's website.
The festival's interactive component includes a series of workshops where fans can meet performers working at the festival, who will "share insight and knowledge about what it takes to become an accomplished artist in an intimate experiential setting that is focused on musical instruments and the song creation process," according to a press release. Bands performing at the festival will also participate in special Q&A and autograph sessions, according to organizers.
"Download is an opportunity to be a part of a sea change in the way fans interact with music," Brandon Boyd, lead singer of Incubus , said in a press statement. "The festival is not just a performance, but the chance to engage with the fans firsthand on a level unlike any other."
"The talent lineup for this year's Download is extraordinary," added Jason Garner, president of Live Nation, which is promoting the event. "The expansion of the festival to new markets and the breadth of talent that are participating will enable us to continue to connect artists and their fans in unique ways through out the summer."
