Arcade Fire throws in a few more gigs
Canadian indie-rock band Arcade Fire has tacked a few more dates onto the end of its spring tour, including two nights at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre.
Following a three-show run in Chicago last weekend, the North American outing continues tonight (5/24) in Vancouver, British Columbia, and then moves onto George, WA; Portland, OR; and Los Angeles before wrapping with a double shot June 1-2 in Berkeley, CA. The Portland show and the second Berkeley date are sold out, according to a press release. The itinerary is listed below.
The Arcade Fire hit the road in late April to support the release of its second studio album, "Neon Bible," which surfaced in March and peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The bandmates spent most of 2006 holed up in a small church outside of Montreal to record the set, which they self produced.
"After trying to decide if we should work with any producers, we kind of realized that we already know how we want things to sound so we should just run after that sound as fast as [we] can and not rely on someone else to guide the good ship Arcade Fire," frontman Win Butler said in a posting at the band's website.
The group incorporated a huge pipe organ, a hurdy-gurdy, horns, an orchestra and a military choir into the album, which it describes in a press release as being full of "half-assed punk rock mistakes and meticulously orchestrated woodwinds."
"Neon Bible" is the followup to Arcade Fire's critically acclaimed 2004 debut, "Funeral," which earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Rock Album.
