Evanescence replaces departed members, continues to tour

Barely two weeks after the dramatic departure of guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray, alt-rockers Evanescence have filled the empty slots in their lineup.

LeCompt and Gray--who apparently left the band under less than amicable circumstances--have been replaced by guitarist Troy McLawhorn and drummer Will Hunt, both plucked from alt-metal act Dark New Day.

"I am a big fan of Dark New Day and can't wait for the fans to see what the guys bring to our live show," Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee said in a press release.

Evanescence will debut the new lineup Saturday night (5/19) at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, OH, and then follow up with a Sunday (5/20) appearance at radio station WMMR's MMR-B-Q festival in Philadelphia. The band then heads out for a one-month European tour before co-headlining the US leg of the Family Values Tour with Korn . The full American itinerary is included below.

LeCompt's and Gray's departures from the band apparently centered on a falling out with Lee, according to an Internet posting the guitarist made shortly after the break.

"Around 3:30 pm yesterday I received a call on my cell from Amy," LeCompt wrote in a recent blog entry posted at his personal MySpace page. "This call wasn't from a friend who appreciated me but from an enemy who was prepared to hurt me and my family. Without any warning or negotiations for my future, I was fired for no good reason. ... I have now become just another of the people fallen by the wayside on the revolving door of her life. It's funny how many of us there are now."

Founding Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody split with the group in 2003 and was replaced by Terry Balsamo (Cold); bassist Will Boyd exited last year and was replaced by Tim McCord (Revolution Smile).

Lee had cast a more positive spin on the departures in a May 6 posting at the band's MySpace page.

"John and Rocky were in Evanescence for four years and we shared some great times together playing live, but they were ready to move on and so we have parted ways," Lee wrote.

Gray and LeCompt plan to continue their work together in a new band dubbed Machina, which LeCompt said in his blog posting will be doing some major-label showcases in New York this month.
