Several cities added to Martina McBride tour

More than a month into her US trek, Martina McBride is still adding dates.

Since last check, the country star has added stops in Cape Girardeau, MO; Jackson, MS; Twin Lakes, WI; Glendale, AZ; Las Vegas; Nampa, ID; and Kennewick, WA. The cross-country jaunt, which is scheduled to hit a number of fairs and festivals, is set to wrap August 17 in Springfield, IL. Details are listed below.

Break-out acts Little Big Town and Rodney Atkins are on tap to open most dates, with Diamond Rio joining McBride June 22-24. Details about which acts are appearing on each date can be found at McBride's website.

The songstress is supporting her new album, "Waking Up Laughing," which surfaced last month. The set, her ninth, marks the first time she has taken on the triple threat of serving as producer, writer and artist.

"I'd never considered myself a writer, especially when I've come to rely on the incredible talent we have here in Nashville," McBride said in a statement, "but Brett and Brad [Warren of The Warren Brothers] made me realize how fun and satisfying songwriting could be."

Apparently, her fans are pretty confident in McBride's songwriting abilities, too. The album's debut single, "Anyway," has become the fastest-rising single of McBride's career, according to a press release. The song is streaming at her MySpace page.

"Waking Up Laughing" follows 2005's platinum-selling "Timeless," a collection of country classics that McBride calls "a labor of love." After admittedly "hitting a wall, creatively," following her 2003 eponymous release, McBride said "Timeless" gave her the space she needed to focus on making music simply for the joy of it.

McBride, a four-time Country Music Association Vocalist of the Year, has sold more than 16 million albums and charted 22 Top 10 singles in her 15-year career, according to the her bio.
