Daddy Yankee offers ticket pre-sales with new album

Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee has a new album due next month, and is offering fans who pre-order the set advance access to tickets for his upcoming US tour.

The outing is set to kick off Aug. 31 in Rosemont, IL, and travel across the US through mid-October. Dates are listed below.

"The Cartel: The Big Boss," which is scheduled to hit stores June 5, is Daddy Yankee's first studio album since 2004's platinum-selling "Barrio Fino." It features guest artists including Fergie and Will.I.Am of The Black Eyed Peas, Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls, and Akon. The video for the first single, "Impacto," is streaming at Daddy Yankee's website.

The performer said his upcoming album is very different from what he's done in the past.

"My roots are still there but now there's more--a side of me people haven't seen--including hip-hop," Daddy Yankee said in a statement. "And I know the power music has, too. I'm a leader in Latin culture. The album talks about the role we're playing in society. For people that don't know what's happening, we need to let them know what's going on."

Fans who pre-order "The Cartel: The Big Boss" at the iTunes store beginning today (5/16) will receive a special Ticketmaster password that can be used to purchase advance tickets to concerts starting June 9. The general on-sale begins June 15. (Ticketmaster is LiveDaily's parent company.)

Daddy Yankee's career has taken him from the barrios outside San Juan, Puerto Rico, to being named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the world. In 2006, he had the biggest-selling Latin album of the year, was named Artist of the Year by the Latin Billboard Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamerica, and earned the titles of ASCAP Latin Songwriter of the Year and Univision's Urban Artist of the Year.

The vocalist is also an entrepreneur (he founded his own record label and management company, and serves as a spokesman for Pepsi and Reebok), a radio personality (he recently celebrating his first anniversary as host of the Daddy Yankee On Fuego Radio Show on ABC Radio Networks), and an actor (his first film, "Talento de Barrio," is slated for release in the US later this year).

Daddy Yankee is also involved in several philanthropic endeavors, and is set to launch his own charitable organization this year, according to a press release.
