Crowded House reveals reunion tour schedule

May 15, 2007 02:47 PM
Antipodean pop-rockers Crowded House have announced dates for a late summer reunion tour, the band's first in more than 10 years.

The group will hook up with singer/songwriter Pete Yorn for the bulk of the shows, co-headlining a string of dates that kicks off Aug. 5 in Boston. Crowded House will launch its American tour sans Yorn one day earlier, Aug. 4 in Northampton, MA.

The band also plans an Aug. 22 show in Denver with Fountains of Wayne . The full schedule is listed below. Crowded House made an initial reunion appearance at last month's Coachella music festival in Indio, CA.

Band frontman Neil Finn and bassist Nick Seymour reconnected following the 2005 suicide death of Crowded House drummer Paul Hester, Finn told The Dominion Post of New Zealand. The two spent much of 2006 hanging out and making music together, and intend to release a new record, "Time On Earth," later this year.

"It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and, together with [guitarist/pianist] Mark Hart, we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect," Finn said in a press release. "We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music every bit as vital and spirited as what has come before."

In February, the band tabbed former Beck drummer Matt Sherrod to take Hester's place behind the drum kit.

The reunion follows Crowded House's January release of a double-CD and DVD of its massive 1996 "farewell" concert outside the Sydney Opera House. "Farewell to the World" is a 24-song set with live renditions of hits including "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong."
