Toby Keith makes 'Big Dog' bigger
Country superstar Toby Keith has added a few more dates to his Big Dog Daddy Tour, which is set to launch June 21 in Birmingham, AL.
Cities added since last check are Dallas; Holmdel, NJ; Harrington, DE; and Allegan, MI, plus a second show in the Detroit market. The full itinerary is listed below. Singer/songwriter Miranda Lambert and country band Flynnville Train will open the tour, which stops at amphitheaters and festivals all over the US through September.
The outing supports Keith's forthcoming album, "Big Dog Daddy," which is due June 12. The set is the performer's second on his own label, and marks the first time he's acted as sole producer.
"The only reason I never produced an album by myself before is I didn't have time," Keith said in a posting at his website. "Why not? Because I'm opening record labels and restaurants, working on movies and things like that. But I knew I was going to have to, across the board, dive in if I wanted this album to be one of the best of my career. So I came in with guns blazing."
So far, it looks like the star knows what he's doing. The lead single from the upcoming record, "High Maintenance Woman," is already a Top 10 hit on the country charts, and is the fastest-rising single of Keith's career, according to a press release. The song is streaming at the singer's MySpace page.
"Big Dog Daddy" follows last year's "White Trash With Money," which became Keith's 12th career platinum album and helped him become the most-played country artist on radio for the fourth consecutive year, according to Nielsen BDS.
The musician, known for his hard-charging work ethic, also had seven cuts on the soundtrack for the 2006 film "Broken Bridges," in which Keith made his acting debut.
"You get out what you put in," Keith said of his work ethic. "I've always been the hardest worker, and prided myself on that. I may not be the biggest star around, but nobody will ever out work me. That's my approach."
Keith's approach has led to record sales topping 30 million in his career, not to mention a slew of accolades, including three BMI Songwriter of the Year trophies and several Academy of Country Music Awards.
