Chicago steps up 40th anniversary tour

Classic rockers Chicago [ tickets ], who kicked off a major North America [ tickets ]n tour in March, have extended the trek into the fall.

The group is currently in Las Vegas for a six-show run at the MGM Grand and will launch a co-headline tour with the band America June 5 in West Palm Beach, FL. That outing focuses on the Eastern US until its final three dates in California July 6-8. Along the way, Chicago will mix in a few of its own shows before beginning its headlining stint July 19 in Farwell, MI. That jaunt will hit US cities from coast to coast through mid-September. Dates include two-night stands in Rama, Ontario; Biloxi, MS; Woodinville, WA; and Saratoga, CA.

Chicago, known for weaving rock 'n' roll with a horn section, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Last year, the Grammy-winning group released its 30th album, "XXX," marking its first set of new material in 10 years. A song from the record, "90 Degrees and Freezing," is streaming at Chicago's MySpace page.

With founding members Robert Lamm, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane and James Pankow, Chicago has sold more than 120 million records and racked up 50 hits in the US, including five No. 1 singles, according to its website. Chicago is the first American band to chart Top 40 albums in five decades, according to a press release.

Earlier this month, the band members accepted the National Association of Recording Merchandisers Chairman's Award for Sustained Creative Achievement.
