Briefly: KT Tunstall, Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain, MusiCares
Singer/songwriter KT Tunstall will offer up a new album this September titled "Drastic Fantastic," which follows her hot-selling debut, "Eye to the Telescope."
The forthcoming set was produced by Steve Osbourne (U2, New Order), who also oversaw "Telescope," and was mixed by Michael H. Brauer (Coldplay, The Rolling Stones).
As she gears up for the release of "Drastic Fantastic," Tunstall will stay busy with a number of high-profile appearances, including a spot at the July 7 Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, where she'll share the stage with The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Kanye West, Dave Matthews Band and others, according to a press release.
Courtney Love , widow of late grunge-rocker Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), plans to sell off her late husband's belongings, according to an exclusive interview with AOL offshoot Spinner.
"I'm going to have a Christie's auction," she reportedly told the publication. "[My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn't need to inherit a giant hefty bag full of flannel f---ing shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit'--that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f---ing sell. ... We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity."
"I still wear his pajamas to bed," she added. "How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"
Singer Chris Cornell and indie-music promoter Jeff McClusky will be honored at the third-annual Musicares Map Fund Benefit concert, which is set to take place May 11 in Hollywood, CA. Veteran rocker Alice Cooper will present the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award to Cornell for Cornell's "dedication an support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process," according to a press release, while Jilly McClusky will present the MusiCares From the Heart Award to her husband, Jeff McClusky, for "his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization."
The event will include performances from Army of Anyone featuring Richard Patrick from Filter, Dean and Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots and Ray Luzier; David Gahan of Depeche Mode with Victor Indrizzo (Beck, Macy Gray); Vincent Jones (Sarah McLachlan) and Martyn LeNoble (Porno For Pyros, Jane's Addiction and The Cult); Josh Klinghoffer (Gnarls Barkley) and John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers); Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Gods and Monsters); and Kenny Wayne Shepherd with Noah Hunt and Double Trouble's Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. Cornell is also scheduled to perform with his new backing band: Yogi Lonich, Corey McCormick, Jason Sutter and Pete Thorn.
The MusiCares MAP fund "provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation," according to the organization. Balcony seating is available to the public at $100 per ticket; information is available by emailing wynniew@grammy.com.
