Poison, Ratt bait US rock fans
Time to break out the hair spray: Eighties glam-rockers Poison and Ratt are gearing up for a major US summer tour that will span more than 50 dates.
The outing, which features White Lion in the opening slot, launches June 13 in Greenville, SC, and travels from coast to coast and back through Sept. 1. Dates are listed below.
Just in time for the tour, Poison will release a new studio album, "Poison'd!," June 5. The 13- track set is a collection of cover tunes originally recorded by acts including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Cars, Sweet, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. It marks the Poison's first new studio effort since 2002's "Hollyweird."
The band--which is performing with original members Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Rikki Rockett and Bobby Dall--has sold more than 25 million records and DVDs worldwide since its 1986 debut, "Look What the Cat Dragged In," according to a press release.
Poison is likely to get even more exposure in July when VH1 debuts a new reality show, "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels," which will attempt to find the singer "a woman who can truly keep up with his rock-n-roll lifestyle and not become jealous of his one true passion--performing," according to the network.
Ratt, which went through an ugly breakup in the early '90s, will see original members Stephen Pearcy, Warren DeMartini and Bobby Blotzer on stage together for the first time since 1999. In addition to the summer tour with Poison, Ratt is planning a full-fledged comeback and will book its own dates--possibly worldwide--into the fall, according to a press release.
Ratt has sold more than 16 million albums since making its mark in the early '80s with a string of hits including "Round and Round."
White Lion, led by original frontman Mike Tramp, released several records in the hair-band decade, including 1987's double-platinum "Pride." That album remained on The Billboard 200 album chart for a year on the strength of singles "Wait," "Tell Me," and "When the Children Cry," according to a press release.
