Indigo Girls extend trek into next year
The Indigo Girls continue to expand their North American tour itinerary, which now takes them from coast to coast through the beginning of next year.
The outing, which kicked off in mid-March, is currently on the East Coast and will head West next month. Dates include May 21-22 Honor the Earth concerts in New Mexico and Arizona to support renewable energy in Native-American communities. Shows are listed below.
The tour backs the Indigo Girls' 10th studio album, "Despite Our Differences," which surfaced in September. The record is the group's first set of all-new material since 2004's "All That We Let In," and its first for Hollywood Records. It also marks Amy Ray and Emily Saliers' 20th year as the Indigo Girls. In that time, the Grammy-winning duo has sold more than 12 million albums, according to a press release.
"Despite Our Differences" was produced by Mitchell Froom (Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow) and features guest artists Pink and emerging singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile. As the title indicates, Ray and Saliers each have their own songwriting styles--in this case combining elements of country, punk, and pop with their harmony-driven folk-rock--but in the end, there is a common denominator.
"The record has a very straightforward feel to it which is the best treatment for a group of songs that are emotional and honest," Saliers said in a statement. "And even though Amy’s and my songs are very different from each other's, the Indigo glue is still there."
