Steve Winwood ready to tackle US tour

Steve Winwood has sketched out a summer return to the US--including an appearance at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival in Chicago--in between a slate of UK shows.

The former Traffic lead singer will kick off a 13-city outing June 20 in Tulsa, OK. The trek features a few festival appearances, but mainly consists of headlining shows in small theaters and nightclubs. Details are included below.

The daylong Crossroads fest, set for July 28 in suburban Chicago's Toyota Park, features an impressive roster. In addition to Winwood, the show--which benefits Clapton's Crossroads Centre, a substance-abuse rehab facility in Antigua, West Indies--will include performances from Clapton, B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer and a host of others.

Winwood, whose most recent studio set is 2003's "About Time," was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic, a group best known for its work in the late-'60s and early '70s.

The singer appears on Christina Aguilera's latest album, "Back to Basics," which features a sample of the Traffic classic "Glad," as well as Winwood re-creating the song's piano/organ refrains.
