Meat Puppets reunite for new album, tour
Curt and Cris Kirkwood--two-thirds of influential alternative act Meat Puppets --will reunite behind a new album this year, touring together for the first time in more than a decade.
The revamped Meat Puppets will play a few shows in May, kicking off May 15 in West Hollywood, CA, before launching a more extensive tour this summer, closer to the July 17 release of "Rose to Your Knees," according to the band's publicist. The current itinerary is included below.
Original Meat Puppets drummer Derrick Bostrom will not participate in the reunion; his position will be filled by Ted Marcus.
The reunion follows several years of turmoil for Cris Kirkwood, who endured drug addiction and was shot by a security guard at a post office following a violent altercation before being sentenced to (and serving) 18 months in prison. He was released in July of 2005.
In an interview last year with Billboard.com, Curt Kirkwood talked about making a new Meat Puppets album and revealed that he hadn't seen his brother in person since 1998.
"He's [been] clean for more than two years and he's all raring to go," Curt Kirkwood told the website. "Cris' resurrection is no less than miraculous--it's like a Lazarus-type thing. I was just like, 'If Cris is back, I know his frame of mind.' If he's upright and walking, it's hard to knock him down."
Cris Kirkwood's last participation on one of the band's studio albums came with 1995's "No Joke!" The group released one more album, 2000's "Golden Lies," before dissolving in 2001.
Curt Kirkwood released his first solo album, "Snow," in 2005.
