Queensryche commits 'Mindcrime' with live set
Veteran metal band Queensryche has booked a handful of US dates through the summer that will sandwich a four-show tour of Japan.
Stateside shows begin May 24 in Albuquerque and so far stretch through mid-July. Details are listed below. International dates can be found at Queensryche's website.
The band continues to support last year's "Operation Mindcrime II," which is the sequel to its 1988 platinum-selling concept album. "Mindcrime II" debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the band's highest debut in more than a decade, according to a press release. A few songs from the set are streaming at Queensryche's MySpace page.
Last year's theatrical tour to support the "Mindcrime" series was captured for double-CD and -DVD sets due in June. "Mindcrime at the Moore," filmed in Queensryche's hometown of Seattle, comprises the full theatrical production with actors playing out the "Mindcrime" saga.
The DVD set also includes a tour documentary, a featurette on the band's "Rock & Ride Across America" charity event and a live performance of "The Chase" from the Los Angeles concert that featured Ronnie James Dio's only public appearance as the character Dr. X.
"This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago," singer/songwriter Geoff Tate said in a statement. "The story and music of 'Operation: Mindcrime' is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience."
Queensryche is also planning a "best-of" album for later this summer.
During its 26-year career, Queensryche has sold more than 20 million albums and toured in more than 22 countries, according to a press release. The band retains four of its five original members--Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield. Guitarist Mike Stone came on board as a permanent member in 2005.
