Briefly: Chili Peppers, Eddie Vedder, Nine Inch Nails, The Jacksons, Lucinda Williams
The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder have signed on to headline the annual "Hullabaloo" benefit concert, which is set to take place next month.
Proceeds from the May 5 event, which is booked into Los Angeles' Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater, will benefit the nonprofit Silverlake Conservatory of Music (SCM), which RHCP bassist Flea co-founded in 2001 with Keith Barry, dean of SCM. Funds from the "Hullabaloo" concert will, among other things, provide scholarships to more than 100 low-income students whose families would otherwise be unable to afford instruments and/or lessons, and will also help to expand the school's summer-camp program, according to a press release.
Tickets--which are priced at $250 for general admission and $500 for V.I.P. access--will be available exclusively via the SCM's website starting April 21. Attendance is limited to 1,400 guests.
"Year Zero," the forthcoming album from Nine Inch Nails , is currently streaming in its entirety at the band's website. The disc, which is due out April 17, will be enclosed in a digipack package with a 24-page booklet, according to the site. (The group's 2005 album, "With Teeth," contained no booklet; instead, the band distributed the album's liner notes via a PDF download).
New York-based auction house Guernsey's is scheduled next month to auction off "thousands of items from Michael, Janet, La Toya, Jermaine and the rest of the Jackson Family," according to information posted at the company's website. The auction is set to take place May 30-31 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, with a public preview of the items set for May 28-29.
Those interested in seeing what's headed for the auction block can order from Guernsey's website a $25 ($33 with shipping) "luscious, beautifully designed" auction catalog, according to the site.
Lucinda Williams is scheduled to perform four songs and chat with host David Dye on the April 17 episode of NPR's "World Cafe," according to a press release. Local listings are posted at the program's website.
