Fountains of Wayne drive 'Traffic' on headlining tour
Pop-rockers Fountains of Wayne will try to find out if there's life beyond "Stacy's Mom" when the band heads out on tour later this month to support its first new studio album in four years.
The New Yorkers--who have been making music together since 1996 but didn't achieve widespread success until the aforementioned song became an unexpected smash in 2003--have lined up a brief stretch of tour dates this spring, kicking off April 20 in New York as part of Apple Computer's "Live From Soho" concert series.
After an April 30 appearance in San Francisco, the group will then head overseas for a UK tour in May, followed by another set of North American dates in June. The band's current European plans can be viewed at its official website.
"Traffic and Weather," released in early April, is the band's follow-up to its 2003 breakout release, "Welcome Interstate Managers." The new set was produced by lead singer and main songwriter, Adam Schlesinger, and mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Paul McCartney) and John Holbrook (Elton John, Todd Rundgren).
Several tracks from the new album can currently be heard streaming at the band's MySpace page.
