Briefly: R.E.M., 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, 'Spider-Man' soundtrack, Linkin Park
Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees R.E.M. will unveil some new material during a five-night stand this summer in Dublin, Ireland.
The Athens,GA-based alt-rock pioneers have booked a June 30-July 5 stretch at Dublin's Olympia Theater, during which they'll showcase songs from recording sessions that are due to take place this spring, according to a press release. Tickets are available through the band's online ticket store.
The Dublin gigs are currently R.E.M.'s only scheduled shows for 2007.
50 Cent , whose name recently turned up in the press when he was accused of being behind G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo 's alleged assault on a 14-year-old boy, claims he's launching his own investigation into the incident.
"We are conducting out own investigation to determine exactly what happened in Manhattan on Tuesday, March 20th," Benjamin Brafman, 50's lawyer, said in a statement released Monday (4/20). Brafman went on to reiterate that 50 was not in New York at the time of the incident, a claim the attorney first made in a statement issued last week.
As previously reported, Yayo allegedly struck the 14-year-old son of Czar Entertainment head Jimmy "The Henchman" Rosemond. Rosemond's lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, subsequently claimed that 50 orchestrated the alleged assault; Brafman responded at the time by claiming 50 may sue Lichtman for defamation.
Snow Patrol , The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wolfmother and Jet are among the acts who've contributed songs to the forthcoming "Spider-Man 3" soundtrack. The disc, which lands in stores May 1, will also include music from The Walkmen, Black Mountain, The Flaming Lips, Simon Dawes, Chubby Checker, Rogue Wave, Coconut Records, Sounds Under Radio, Wyos and The Oohlas.
More information about the set--including streaming audio samples--is available at the soundtrack's official website.
"What I've Done"--the first single from Linkin Park 's forthcoming album, "Minutes to Midnight"--hit radio stations today (4/2). The cut will be available for purchase starting tomorrow (4/3) at Apple's iTunes Music Store; also tomorrow, iTunes will host the exclusive debut of the song's companion music video, according to a press release.
Co-produced by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and super-producer Rick Rubin, "Minutes to Midnight" is due in stores May 15.
