Spoon takes small bite of roadwork before new album

Indie rockers Spoon will hit a brief slate of clubs and small theaters in April as the band looks forward to the June release of its as-yet-untitled sixth full-length studio album.

The Austin, TX, foursome also has a number of festival appearances on its calendar for later this summer, including the May 27 Sasquatch! Festival in George, WA, and a June 16 slot at the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN. The band's headlining outing kicks off April 13 in Grinnell, IA, at that city's Grinnell College. Details are included below.

According the group's publicist, a full-strength US tour will follow this fall.

The new album is the follow-up to 2005's "Gimme Fiction." More recently, Britt Daniels, the group's frontman, co-authored the score to the 2006 movie "Stranger Than Fiction." Spoon contributed several songs to the film's soundtrack, including the brand-new "The Book I Write."

Spoon is the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Since founding the group in 1994, the duo has worked with a succession of bass players and keyboardists. It released its first album, the minimalist art-punk set "A Series of Sneaks," in 1998, and followed that up in 2000 with "Girls Can Tell." Spoon broke through commercially with 2002's "Kill the Moonlight."
