Elvis Costello preps for tour, reissues in May
Elvis Costello & the Imposters will take to the road in May for an 11-city tour that will hit clubs and theaters coast to coast.
The jaunt kicks off May 2 in West Hollywood, CA, and wraps May 19 in Philadelphia. The itinerary is listed below.
Visa Signature, which is sponsoring the trek, is offering pre-sale tickets and VIP concert experiences to its cardholders through April 6. General ticket sales start the day after.
In conjunction with the tour, Universal Music will release much of Costello's back catalog in various formats, according to a press release. There will be two compilations: "Rock and Roll Music," a collection of rock-themed hits, b-sides and rarities, and "The Best of Elvis Costello : The First 10 Years." The company will also reissue Costello's first 11 albums.
Universal acquired the Costello records--from 1977's "My Aim is True" to to 1986's "Blood and Chocolate"--last year. In addition to reissues and compilations, the company is planning box sets, live albums, rarities discs, DVD collections and television concert performances, among other things.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's most recent release is a collaboration with New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint recorded last June in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. "The River in Reverse," which comprises seven songs from Toussaint's catalog, the title track by Costello, and five new tunes written by the two, earned them a Grammy nomination. It was followed by the DVD "Hot as a Pistol, Keen as a Blade," which captures a live show from last year's Costello/Toussaint tour.
Sample clips from the set are streaming at Costello's website and MySpace page.
In 2006, Costello also released "My Flame Burns Blue," a concert album recorded in the Netherlands with the Metropole Orchestra.
