Godsmack plans May trek
The hard rockers of Godsmack will hit the road in May for a run of US shows primarily along the East Coast.
The Grammy-nominated band is set to get things rolling with a May 5 performance at Memphis' Beale Street Music Festival. From there, the guys will hit cities in Alabama, Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania. Details are listed below.
Godsmack is supporting its fourth studio album, "Godsmack IV," which hit the streets last April. The record--the band's first full-length in three years--debuted atop The Billboard 200 album chart and spawned the hit single "Speak."
Frontman Sully Erna, in a statement, said the set shows off a more mature, more defined Godsmack.
"I let go of the steering wheel a bit, allowing the band control over the writing," he said. "With me stepping away to get an outside view, I came up with lyrics for what I viewed as almost another group entirely. It's a lot more rootsy than the metal edge we're used to playing."
"Godsmack IV" was produced by Erna and engineered by Andy Johns, whose credits include "Led Zeppelin IV," Van Halen's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge," and The Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main Street." A couple of songs from the record are streaming at Godsmack's MySpace page.
In related news, Erna released his memoir, "The Paths We Choose," last month. The book details the singer's struggles growing up on the mean streets of Lawrence, MA. In January, a tearful Erna reportedly accepted the key to that city.
