SXSW Performer: Cold War Kids (Fullerton, CA)

Thanks to raves from music blogs, the buzz about Cold War Kids began to build long before the band released its debut album, "Robbers and Cowards." War Kids boast jangily guitar and handclaps. The album, a compilation of EP songs and new material, was recorded in a matter of weeks, and fervently captures the raw power of the group's live shows. On the strength of their single/video "Hang Me Up To Dry," Cold War Kids were chosen for the Spring 2007 class of the mtvU "Freshman Five," an annual list of five emerging artists poised to jump from college favorites to household names. --Christina Fuoco-Karasinski
