Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, others head up True Colors tour
Cyndi Lauper tops the bill of the inaugural True Colors tour--an outing she conceived to support the Human Rights Campaign, a gay-and-lesbian advocacy group--which will also feature Erasure , Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls , The Gossip and The Misshapes.
The outing gets underway June 8 in Las Vegas and is scheduled to hit 15 cities throughout the US, including a June 30 finale in Los Angeles. The full itinerary is listed below. Tickets for select cities will begin rolling out Friday (3/16); details are available at the tour's website.
Hosted by comedian Margaret Cho, the event will feature five hours of music, according to a press release, and select dates will include appearances by special guests such as Rufus Wainwright, Rosie O'Donnell and Indigo Girls.
Lauper spearheaded the tour as a result of "her desire to give back to the community for the love and support they have given her throughout her career. In addition to the Human Rights Campaign--which bills itself as the nation's largest organization working for GLBT equality--the outing is also presented by PFLAG and The Matthew Shepard Foundation. The tour aims to "bring together Americans across the country to voice their solidarity against discrimination and for equality and raise public awareness about the issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community," according to a press release.
One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit the Human Rights Campaign, according to organizers.
"I am thrilled to be part of this tour because I am about as colorful and as queer as it gets," Cho said in a prepared statement. 'Who else is going to keep all those Queens in line?"
"Without fear, Cyndi Lauper has been a champion for equality for not only gay and lesbian Americans but for all people," Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese said in a statement. "Cyndi has always stood with us and selflessly used her talents to promote fairness for everyone."
