Tony Bennett all over the map this year
Tony Bennett , who celebrated his 80th birthday in August, shows no signs of slowing down; the legendary crooner is mapping out his touring schedule for the year, with North American and UK dates already booked through December.
Bennett will start with a handful of US shows this month and next before heading to the UK April 29 for a string of dates through May 8. He'll be stateside again May 14, and will pace himself with several gigs per month until year's end. Confirmed North American shows are listed below, while overseas dates can be found at Bennett's website.
In honor of his 80th birthday last year, the singer released "Tony Bennett: Duets/An American Classic," featuring duets with Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Bono, Billy Joel, James Taylor, George Michael, Celine Dion, Elvis Costello, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, k.d. lang, Diana Krall, Michael Buble, Juanes and John Legend. Trumpeter Chris Botti and violinist Pinchas Zukerman are also guests on the record, which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The album scored three Grammy awards at last month's ceremony: Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists for the song "For Once in my Life" featuring Stevie Wonder. The wins brought Bennett's career Grammy count up to 16.
The octogenarian--who has sold more than 50 million records worldwide, according to his website--has also been honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bennett is one of a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and beyond, according to his bio. With the help of his son/manager, Danny, the performer has managed to bridge the generation gap.
In addition to his music career, Bennett is an avid painter and author, and has dedicated much of his time to humanitarian concerns.
