George Strait leads ACM pack with eight nominations
Veteran country star George Strait has been nominated for eight 2007 Academy of Country Music Awards, more than any other solo performer,
The singer--whose recent album "It Just Comes Natural" is vying for Album of the Year honors, along with several of the songs from the set--vying for Entertainer of the Year, along with vocal duo Brooks & Dunn , whose seven ACM nominations place them just behind the resurgent Strait.
The duo's Ronnie Dunn also has an additional solo nomination in the Vocal Event of the Year category for "I Don't Want To" with Ashley Monroe, tying him with Strait for most nominations overall.
Country group Rascal Flatts is also up for Entertainer of the Year, the ACM's top award. The group nabbed six nominations, including two as co-producers in each of the album and single categories, placing them third on the list.
"We are grateful that we continue to be recognized by our peers and the Academy," said the group's frontman, Gary LeVox in a press release. "This will never, ever get old."
Former "American Idol" and two-time ACM winner Carrie Underwood received five nominations, including nods for Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for "Some Hearts," along with Song, Single and Video of the Year, all for "Before He Cheats."
"I feel like I am still in a dream,” said Underwood in a statement. "My life has been such a whirlwind in the past two years, so please don’t wake me up!"
