Flaming Lips kiss the East Coast in April
Psychedelic alt-rockers The Flaming Lips have booked a run of US dates in April that will take them along the East Coast.
The band will start off April 11 in Athens, GA, and hit cities in Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia and Rhode Island through April 21. Fellow Oklahoma City alt-rock outfit Stardeath and White Dwarfs will support on all dates, which are listed below.
Last April, The Flaming Lips released their 12th studio album, "At War With the Mystics," which earned the group Grammy awards for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, and Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the track "The Wizard Turns On ...."
The album, which is streaming at the Lips' website, is described by the band as containing "doses of existential space-rock protest songs, commentaries about social responsibility and some really weird pop tunes."
A special double-disc edition of "At War with the Mystics" was released in October. It includes a bonus DVD with outtakes, several radio sessions, three music videos and frontman Wayne Coyne's 2006 commencement speech at Oklahoma City's Classen High School.
In their 20-plus-year career, The Flaming Lips haven't been a big commercial success in the US (except for their 1993 radio hit "She Don't Use Jelly"), but they've become renowned for their live performances, which have included fireworks, confetti, mirrored balls and men in rabbit suits.
