Briefly: Trey Anastasio, Run-D.M.C., Hank Williams Jr., 'Death Proof'
Former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio appeared in an upstate New York courtroom today (2/27), where he pleaded not guilty to felony charges stemming from his December arrest for alleged drug-related offenses.
Police said Anastasio, 42, was pulled over on Dec. 15 at about 3:30 a.m. for failing to keep to the right, and was administered a field-sobriety test, with police determining that the singer was under the influence of narcotics. He was also found to be in possession of two prescription narcotics--hydrocodone and percocet--and the anti-anxiety medication Xanax. All three medications were prescribed to another person, authorities said. Police also allegedly found a substance in the car that was later determined to be heroin.
Since the incident, Anastasio spent 28 days in rehab at the Eric Clapton Treatment Center in Antigua.
"He has a problem and he acknowledges that," Anastasio's lawyer, Steve Coffey, told the Albany, NY, Times Union newspaper. "He has a wife and two daughters and he wants to get on with his life."
The next hearing in the case is reportedly scheduled for March 27.
"Run DMC Live at Montreux 2001"--a set that captures one of the seminal rap trio's final performances before the group's DJ, Jam Master Jay, was shot to death--is due in stores April 3.
The title will be available as an audio CD, and will also be simultaneously released as "the only known commercially available Run DMC concert DVD," according to a press release.
Prosecutors in Memphis, TN, have dismissed a misdemeanor assault case that hand been pending against country singer Hank Williams Jr., according to an Associated Press report. The case stemmed from an early 2006 claim by a then-19-year-old waitress who claimed Williams had assaulted her.
"We didn't feel we had a case we could prove," District Attorney General Bill Gibbons told the AP.
T Rex , Pacific Gas & Electric , The Coasters and Eddie Floyd are among the artists whose work will appear on the soundtrack to the forthcoming Quentin Tarrantino flick "Death Proof," according to a press release. The set is due out April 3 on the Maverick Records label; the film follows on April 6.
