Bonnaroo nails down initial lineup

The Police , Tool , Widespread Panic and The White Stripes top the initial lineup for the sixth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, to be held June 14-17 in Manchester, TN.

Organizers expect to host more than 100 bands and 20 comedians on 13 stages during the four-day rock festival. They tout Bonnaroo as the largest and only round-the-clock music and camping event in the US.

A slew of additional acts are already booked, and more will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release. Confirmed artists are listed below. Tickets go on sale Feb. 23 exclusively at Bonnaroo's website.

Besides music, the fest offers 24-hour-a-day activities, including a comedy club, cinema, silent disco, arcade, Internet cafes, restaurants, yoga classes and craft vendors.

"Being a four-day, 24-hour event has put us in a unique position to create entertainment options that go way beyond what a fan gets to experience at a normal concert or festival," Rich Goodstone of Superfly Productions said in a statement. "You can come to Bonnaroo and catch a set by a headlining comedian, create your own mix CD, taste beers at our brewer's festival, hook up with an environmental organization or see a new documentary film--and that's just scratching the surface."

Bonnaroo's onsite comedy club has become an integral part of the event, and this year will host Lewis Black, David Cross and Dave Attell.

In addition to its reputation for supplying a wide-range of entertainment, Bonnaroo is becoming known for its environmental friendliness, raising awareness among patrons and taking significant steps to reduce or eliminate its environmental impact. Last year, the fest diverted 60 percent of its waste from landfills and replaced more than 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel with bio-diesel, according to a statement.

In a move to secure the fest's long-term stability, Bonnaroo's principles recently purchased a major portion of the 700-acre Tennessee farm that hosts the event, according to a press release.
