Band of Horses plans shows , hints of new material
Indie rockers Band of Horses have announced their first batch of dates for 2007, along with news of future recording projects headed down the pipeline.
The band--consisting of core duo Ben Bridwell and Matt Brooke, assisted by a revolving cast of friends on the road--will kick off its short, nine-date stretch Feb. 25 in Portland, OR. The itinerary includes a March 11 stop at the multi-day, outdoor Langerado Music Festival in Sunrise, FL.
The Band of Horses lineup will be augmented for the upcoming dates by guitarist Robin Peringer (Carissa's Weird, Modest Mouse) and bass player Matt Gentling (Archers of Loaf). Carrie Anne Hearst and The Gun Street Girls will be along on the road to provide opening support.
Bridwell and Brooke formed Band of Horses in 2004 out of the ashes of their previous band, Carissa's Weird, which released three indie-label albums. Already well known in Seattle indie circles, the duo signed with Sub Pop and toured extensively with Iron and Wine, and Okkervil River last year before cutting their debut album.
The band was originally named Horses, but Bridwell and Brooke discovered that another group was already using that name, so adopted the title of their own website as the band's new moniker.
The duo released a self-titled EP last year before recording "Everything All the Time," which hit stores last March.
A recent posting on the group's website mentioned that the band will be heading into an Asheville, NC, recording studio in March to begin laying down tracks for a follow-up to "Everything All the Time."
