Los Lobos set out on acoustic jaunt

January 31, 2007 12:21 PM
The members of Los Lobos are loading up their guitarones, jaranas and bajo sextos for a 16-city acoustic tour that launches Feb. 8 in La Jolla, CA, and focuses on West Coast and East Coast cities through mid-March.

The Grammy-winning roots rockers will then head to Europe in late April for a handful of shows, and have more US dates on the books from July to September. Domestic dates are listed below and international gigs can be found at Los Lobos' website.

On the Acoustic En Vivo Tour, named after the band's 2005 live release of the same name, Los Lobos will play some of their classic tunes alongside material from their latest album, "The Town and the City," as well as traditional folkloric songs from Latin America. Bluesman Taj Mahal will join the band on several dates.

"The Town and the City" is the 13th studio album of Los Lobos' 34-year career. The self-produced record, which was released in September, landed on several critics' lists as one of the Top 10 albums of 2006. A couple of songs from the set are streaming at Los Lobos' MySpace page.

In related news, Los Lobos guitarist/vocalist David Hidalgo is featured playing accordion on Ramblin' Jack Elliot's "I Stand Alone" album, which is up for a Grammy award next month.
