B.B. King out of the hospital, tour to resume

B.B. King was discharged from a Galveston, TX, hospital Saturday (1/27) following a bout with the flu, according to reports.

The 81-year-old blues legend was "feeling fabulous" and "back to his old self," Tina France, a spokesperson for King's management company, told the Associated Press.

King, who has a history of diabetes, was scheduled to play a two-night stand at Galveston's Grand Opera House Jan. 25-26, but was instead admitted to the hospital with a reported 100.4-degree fever. France said monitoring was required because of his age.

The bluesman also missed last night's (1/28) show in Orange, TX, but is expected to be back onstage tomorrow (1/30) in Fort Worth. The canceled concerts will be rescheduled in June, France told AP.

King, a 14-time Grammy winner, vowed not to hit the road abroad anymore after 2006, but he's still touring like a madman in the US. His latest string of dates started in November and take him all over the US into April. Details are listed below.

"As long as people buy my records and come to my concerts, I don't see anything else I'd like to do," King said in a statement last year.

The entertainer has released more than 50 albums in his career, the latest one titled "80" to mark his landmark birthday. The collection of duets won last year's Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album.

In September, King recorded four shows at his namesake clubs in Nashville and Memphis for the upcoming DVD and soundtrack "Live at B.B. King's." A release date has not been scheduled.

During his career, King has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy organization. He added to those accolades in December when he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
