Sugarland enjoys the wild ride

January 19, 2007 11:53 AM
The fairytale continues for Sugarland as the country-music duo hits the road this month to support its sophomore album, "Enjoy the Ride," which has sold more than a million units since its November release.

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, a.k.a. Sugarland, will take their band on the road for shows in the Southern and Eastern US starting Jan. 27 in Orlando, FL. The group has also been tapped to play the inaugural Stagecoach festival, which will take over Indio, CA's Empire Polo Field May 5-6, the weekend after the massive Coachella fest. Starting in June, Sugarland will join Kenny Chesney on his Flip Flop Summer Tour, playing alongside Brooks & Dunn, Sara Evans and Pat Green. Date are listed below.

The last couple of years have been a whirlwind for Sugarland. The group's debut album, 2004's "Twice the Speed of Life," was certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and scored back-to-back hit singles with "Baby Girl" and "Something More." Sugarland also won the American Music Award for Breakthrough Favorite New Artist in 2005.

Last year, the group was nominated for five Academy of Country Music Awards and walked away with the trophy for Top New Duo/Vocal Group. They were also nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Despite the exit of founding member Kristen Hall a year ago, Sugarland has kept going as a duo without missing a beat. In 2006, the group joined Kenny Chesney on his The Road and the Radio tour and opened for Brooks & Dunn.

Nettles and Bush co-wrote "Enjoy the Ride" and co-produced the album with revered Nashville producer Byron Gallimore (Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Lee Ann Womack). The record spawned the act's first No. 1 single, "Want To."

"It's a good thing we named the record 'Enjoy the Ride' because this has been a wild one," Nettles said in a statement.

Song clips from the album, including the new single, "Settlin'," are streaming at the band's website.
