Briefly: Depeche Mode, Apple, Iron Maiden, Richard X. Heyman, Gin Blossoms

Depeche Mode has released exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store a digital box set dubbed "The Complete Depeche Mode."

The set--which comprises 644 tracks--includes all 11 Depeche Mode studio albums, all singles and B-sides, two live albums, eight live tracks from the group's most recent tour, two singles collections and 10 previously unreleased acoustic recordings, as well as additional material.

Complete details about the set are available at Depeche Mode's website.

In related news, Apple announced today that the iTunes Music Store has sold more than 2 billion tracks since its April 2003 launch. The announcement came during Apple CEO Steve Jobs' keynote speech at the annual Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Jobs also unveiled the company's new iPhone, which marries many of the features found in its popular iPod digital-music player with new cellular-phone and PDA technology.

Iron Maiden has locked in a Jan. 30 US release date for its "Death on the Road" DVD, which first surfaced in the group's native England nearly a year ago.

"We realize that the fans have been made to wait a little longer than planned for the DVD to come out," bassist Steve Harris said in a statement. "We won't settle for anything but the best and the extra time and effort spent in the final production of this DVD should be apparent. I can safely say that when people see songs like 'Paschendale' and 'Dance of Death' their jaws will hit the floor as mine did when I saw the final product on my TV at home. With visuals like this and the show played in 5.1 on a decent system, it's just like being in the front rows of the show."

"Actual Sighs," an updated edition of Richard X. Heyman 's 1987 debut EP, "Actual Size," will be available next month. The new disc features re-recorded versions of the six cuts that appeared on the original set, as well as 14 additional tracks that were written for "Actual Size," but weren't recorded during the making of "Actual Size" because Heyman couldn't afford to cut them at that time.

"In my mind, this is the debut album I wanted to make," Heyman said in a press release. "I didn't get to make it then, so I'm making it now. Same material. The only difference is I have more experience in the studio and the recording process."

Additional information about the set, including a complete tracklisting, is posted at Heyman's website.

Arizona-based alt-rockers The Gin Blossoms have been tapped to give a free headlining performance as part of Phoenix's Rock'n'Roll Marathon, which takes place Jan. 14. The group's set is scheduled to take place at Tempe Beach Park, and will cap a day during which more than 70 live bands will perform along the marathon route. Complete details are available at the marathon's website.
