Fall Out Boy to headline Civic Tour
Pop-rock darlings Fall Out Boy have been tapped to headline this year's Honda Civic Tour , the car company announced during an event and surprise performance at its California headquarters last week.
The seventh annual outing--which organizers said aims to combine hot acts, moderate ticket prices and environmental consciousness--is set to kick off April 18 in Charlotte, NC. The full schedule and support acts will be announced soon, and tickets are set to go on sale Feb. 17 in most cities. More info is available at the tour's website.
"We've been fans of the bands that have come before us on Honda Civic Tour so it's exciting to be part of such an awesome tour," bassist/songwriter Pete Wentz said in a statement. "We're able to do some cool things with our stage show this time around because of Honda and we are excited for our fans to come along for the ride."
As part of the deal, Fall Out Boy designed custom features for a Honda Civic Hybrid that will be showcased at each venue and given away to a lucky fan who enters the drawing, according to a press release. The band members pimped the ride with special paint that includes Fall Out Boy graphics and autographs, "eco-friendly" hemp and vinyl upholstery, a fabricated Audix microphone shift knob, a booming sound system and XM Satellite Radio, among many other upgrades.
Fall Out Boy is currently playing North American clubs and theaters on the largely sold-out Friends or Enemies Tour with New Found Glory, The Early November and Permanent Me. When US dates wrap Jan. 20, Fall Out Boy will head to Europe for a few shows, then Japan, then back to Europe through April 4. Domestic dates are listed below, and international gigs can be found at the band's website.
Fall Out Boy's next album, "Infinity On High," is scheduled to hit stores Feb. 6. The first single, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," debuted on the American Music Awards in November and is streaming at the band's MySpace page.
The new record follows 2005's "From Under the Cork Tree," which sold more than 3 million copies and earned Fall Out Boy a Grammy nomination, according to a press release.
