SXSW to feature David Byrne, Emmylou Harris

In addition to a previously announced keynote address by The Who's Pete Townshend , the roster of panels and interviews for the 2007 edition of the South by Southwest (SXSW ) music festival in Austin, TX, will also feature David Byrne and Emmylou Harris .

SXSW, which is scheduled to take place March 14-18 in and around downtown Austin, will mark its 21st year of existence with a series of interviews with musical celebrities that will also include Gilberto Gil , Rickie Lee Jones and Booker T.

Additional interview subjects on the schedule are producer Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, The Incredible String Band) and Terry McBride, CEO of the Canada-based music company Nettwerk Music Group.

Townshend's keynote will kick off the event on the evening of March 14. The British rock icon--currently touring with a re-energized Who lineup behind the band's first studio album in more than two decades, "Endless Wire"--will also perform with artist Rachel Fuller on March 15.

Byrne will offer a special presentation called "Record Labels: Who Needs Them?" The former Talking Heads frontman, along with his manager, David Whitehead, will examine the state of music in an increasingly digital market.

Harris, who will release a five-disc box of rare material, "Songbird," later this year on Rhino Records, will take questions from an audience and offer an acoustic performance during her interview session.

Brazilian musician Gil, who has served as Brazil's Minister of Culture the last four years, will discuss highlights of a long career that has seen the multi-instrumentalist record 52 albums, including his upcoming "Gil Luminoso," set for release in March.

A full, up-to-the-minute list of panelists, performers and events during the music conference and festival is available at the SXSW website.

The 2007 version of the SXSW music festival is expected to bring more than 1,000 acts to the stages of Austin, along with nearly 10,000 registered participants.
