Briefly: Paul Westerberg, Diddy, Gerald Levert

Former Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg recently suffered a major injury to his left hand, according to one of the singer/songwriter's friends.

"Well, brother Paul could use some prayers at the moment, because a week or so ago he put a screwdriver through his left hand trying to get some wax out of a candle and cut some nerves and ripped some cartilage and hurt himself pretty bad," Minneapolis-based writer Jim Walsh wrote in Dec. 19 blog entry. "He's in a cast. He's seen a couple doctors who say he won't be able to play guitar for a year."

Hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is now the father of twin girls, according to a statement from his publicist. Longtime girlfriend Kim Porter gave birth to the girls early on Thursday (12/21) in New York City.

"Diddy received and early Christmas present," publicist Robert Zimmerman said. "Both Kim and the girls are doing great.

Combs and Porter also have an 8-year-old son, and Combs as another son from a previous relationship.

Atlantic Records has set a Feb. 13 release date for "In My Songs," an album that R&B singer Gerald Levert completely shortly before his death, according to Billboard. The set follows 2004's "Do I Speak for the World?"

As previously reported, Levert died Nov. 10 of an apparent heart attack while at his Cleveland home.
