Relient K jumps into new album, tour in March

Christian pop-punk rockers Relient K will kick off a North American outing in March to support their forthcoming album, "Five Score and Seven Years Ago," which is scheduled to hit stores March 6.

The tour rolls out March 9 in New York City and travels all over the US and Canada through May. Pop-rockers Mae and Sherwood will open the shows, which are listed below.

Before this year is up, Relient K is scheduled to give a Dec. 29 performance at the two-day Christian festival Onefest in Cedar Falls, IA.

"Five Score and Seven Years Ago" is the band's fifth album in seven years, according to its website. The record follows 2004's "Mmhmm," which earned the group its third consecutive gold album certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.

Relient K, formed in Canton, OH, in 1998, has become known for spreading its message with tongue-in-cheek songwriting and high-octane stage performances.

"We've also found it to be the hardest thing in the world to say 'Jesus' in a song and not be cheesy, so we definitely have our own way of singing about spirituality," band frontman Matt Thiessen said in a statement describing "Mmhmm." "But in the end, that's who we are and what we believe in."

The new album's first single, "Must Have Done Something Right," is currently streaming at Relient K's MySpace page. The band is offering its MySpace "friends" access to concert tickets in advance of the general public.
