Snow Patrol finalizes North American tour

Irish alt-rock band Snow Patrol has put the finishing touches on its North American tour, which kicks off Feb. 26 in Portland, OR, and wraps with a few Canadian dates in April.

The group is currently on the road in Europe, with many of its upcoming shows there already sold out, according to its website. The band will also hit Australia and New Zealand before coming to the US, then it's off to Japan in mid-April.

Fellow alt-rockers OK Go and Silversun Pickups will fill the opening slot on the American dates, which are listed below. International shows can be found on the band's website.

The North American gigs mark Snow Patrol's second pass through the US and Canada in less than six months. Its recent fall tour included rescheduled shows that were postponed due to a "severe throat condition" suffered by frontman Gary Lightbody, according to a statement released at the time.

Following that rough patch, Snow Patrol is riding high on recent news that it has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Song category for its hit tune "Chasing Cars." The song is off the band's latest release, "Eyes Open," which hit the street in May.

"Chasing Cars" got a boost onto the pop charts after it was featured in the second-season finale of the television show "Grey's Anatomy." It was also heard on the "One Tree Hill" season finale.

Song clips from "Eyes Open" can be heard at Snow Patrol's MySpace page.
