Il Divo continues to conquer the world
International operatic supergroup Il Divo has extended its 2007 world tour to include Canada with 11 dates beginning April 7 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The outing kicks off Jan. 16 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and visits Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Osaka before heading to Australia in February and then the UK in May. More shows are to be announced.
The international dates can be found at the group's website and the Canadian dates are listed below.
Il Divo recently completed a sold-out world tour, playing to more than 500,000 fans in 69 cities across the UK, US, Europe and Australia, according to the group's website. The quartet then performed as special guests on Barbra Streisand's North American outing.
The group just released its third album, "Siempre," continuing to fuse opera and pop in several languages.
"We're very proud of the new album, and the vocals we've come up with," American tenor David Miller said in a press statement. "We're branching out a little, but it's still the Il Divo sound. We've done 'Nights In White Satin,' and Bryan Adams' 'Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?' But the whole album has a much more Latin feel, more up-tempo. It's more fun."
The group, created by Simon Cowell of "American Idol" fame, also includes French pop singer Sebastien Izambard, Swiss tenor Urs Bühler, and Spanish baritone Carlos Marin. Cowell apparently wanted to form a multinational quartet that sounded like the Three Tenors and looked like Armani models.
In its two-year career, Il Divo has sold more than 12 million albums worldwide, scored 26 No. 1 chart positions internationally and achieved some 104 gold and platinum awards around the world, according to the group's online bio.
Plus, the quartet's good looks have landed them a global advertising campaign for professional haircare brand Tresemme.
In December, the group is set to release a concert DVD, "Il Divo: Live at the Greek Theater," which was recorded in Los Angeles in June.
