Eric Clapton returns to North America in 2007
Eric Clapton will kick off the second leg of his North American tour Feb. 28 in Dallas, hitting 11 states in the Southwest, Midwest and on the West Coast, as well three Canadian provinces. Robert Cray will again open, as he did on Clapton's recent East Coast dates.
Further shows are expected to be announced shortly. Confirmed dates are listed below.
Slowhand is in the midst of a world tour that kicked off May 5 and will continue well into 2007. The first leg took in more than 30 European cities, and Clapton--who's currently in Japan--has since played in the US and Canada. The performer also is scheduled for dates in Singapore, Thailand, China, Korea, New Zealand and Australia through February, according to The Eric Clapton Fan Club Magazine. International dates are listed at that website, which is endorsed by the artist.
Clapton's recent shows have featured a varied setlist including rarely played Derek and the Dominos songs, Clapton classics and newer, soulful tunes from the performer's latest solo album, "Back Home," released in 2005.
This month marked the release of "The Road to Escondido," a 14-track CD that pairs Clapton with his hero, J.J. Cale . The album's music runs the spectrum of blues, rock, country and folk.
"This was the realization of what may have been my last ambition, to work with the man who's music has inspired me for as long as I can remember," Clapton said in a statement. "There are not enough words for me to describe what [Cale] represents to me, musically and personally and, anyway, I wouldn't want to embarrass him by going overboard, for he is a truly humble man. . . . I think it's enough to say that we had fun, made a great record and I, for one, already want to make another."
In his more than 40-year career, Clapton has won or shared in 18 Grammy Awards, and is the only triple inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
