Cartel steps up to headliner in 2007
Pop-punk buzz band Cartel continues to pay its dues on the road, announcing new headline dates that will take the group across the US from February to March.
Cartel was on the Warped Tour over the summer, and recently finished a nationwide outing with New Found Glory. Cobra Starship , Boys Like Girls , Permanent Me and Quietdrive will support Cartel on its headline dates, which are listed below along with a couple of December shows.
The Atlanta-based band is supporting its 2005 debut release, "Chroma," which scored Cartel a spot on Alternative Press' 2005 list of "Bands You Need to Know" and a win in Yahoo! Music's "Who's Next" competition in March.
Cartel initially released "Chroma" on The Militia Group label, but signed with Epic Records in March, prompting a re-release with a bonus live EP. The band also recently contributed a cover version of Oasis' "Wonderwall" to the "Punk Goes '90s" compilation.
Cartel is enjoying a heavy online presence, with more than a million streams on AbsolutePunk.net and more than 50,000 plays in a single day on PureVolume.net, according to the band's website. A few songs from "Chroma," including the single "Honestly," are streaming at the group's MySpace page.
Guitarist/vocalist Will Pugh recently told AbsolutePunk.net that the band members will definitely record in 2007, though he's unsure when a new album will be ready. But he said there would be new material released in one form or another (possibly a short EP) next year.
Meanwhile, the band recorded a live DVD in May at the Masquerade in Atlanta and is looking at an early spring release.
