Ron Sexsmith brings 'Time Being' to US
Critically acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter Ron Sexsmith recently signed a deal with the Ironworks Music label, owned by Kiefer Sutherland and Jude Cole, to release his latest album, "Time Being," in the US.
The record will hit US soil Jan. 9, and so will Sexsmith, as he has a host of dates into February to support "Time Being." He'll offer a preview Nov. 30 in Los Angeles, celebrating the new signing with an acoustic showcase at the Hotel Cafe.
"Time Being," Sexsmith's 10th album, has already been released and lauded in Europe and Canada. The singer will finish a European tour Nov. 21 and begin a Canadian trek four days later. The European shows are listed on the Juno-award winner's website, and his North American dates are below.
Sexsmith is keeping a tour diary for fans in a blog on his MySpace page.
"Time Being" reunites Sexsmith with producer Mitchell Froom, who has played a pivotal role in the singer's career, producing his first three major-label albums. Froom assembled some of Los Angeles' most talented players to accompany Sexsmith on the new album, including drummer Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello), bassist Davey Faragher (Costello, John Hiatt) and guitarist Val McCallum (Jackson Browne, Sheryl Crow), with Mitchell himself adding keyboards, according to a press release.
Sexsmith, known as a "songwriter's songwriter," counts Paul McCartney, Elton John, Steve Earle, John Prine, Radiohead, Costello, Hiatt and Crow among his legion of fans. His songs have been covered by Rod Stewart, Feist, k.d. lang and Nick Lowe, to name a few.
