Cat Power charges up for fall tour
Singer Chan Marshall--better known as Cat Power --will launch a late-year tour behind her latest album, "The Greatest," which was released early this year.
The outing will kick off with an Oct. 28 appearance at the Vegoose Festival (which also features Tom Petty, Widespread Panic and The Killers, among others) in Las Vegas. A few European dates follow before Marshall and company hit their first headlining date Nov. 16 in Memphis.
The singer's itinerary also includes a Nov. 9 solo show in New York as part of a tribute to Bob Dylan with a lineup including Patti Smith and Phillip Glass.
Details about the US shows are included below, while info about the Euro outing are posted at Marshall's website.
Marshall, who called off a scheduled tour earlier this year for "undisclosed health reasons" that she recently admitted were caused by her drinking problems, will hit the road backed by The Memphis Rhythm Band, an all-star assemblage of Memphis session musicians, many of whom appear on "The Greatest."
Originally released in January, "The Greatest" was recently given a special collector's edition re-issue. Released Sept. 12, the disc now sports three different gold-embossed sleeves with different cover art to choose from.
Marshall recorded "The Greatest" in Memphis last year with a group of veteran session players, including members of the Hi Records house band and Steve Potts, onetime drummer for Booker T and the MGs.
