Shakira 's "Oral Fixation" tour was Ticketmaster's "Most Requested Event" during the third quarter of 2006, the company announced today (10/3). (Ticketmaster is LiveDaily's parent company.)
Other concert tours in the Top 10 included The Cheetah Girls (No. 3), Dave Matthews Band (No. 5), The Red Hot Chili Peppers (No. 6); American Idols Live (No. 7); Jimmy Buffett (No. 8) and The Rolling Stones (No. 10).
According to a press release, Ticketmaster's ranking of the most requested events in the US is based on online page views, information requests, and ticket sales through Ticketmaster sales channels between July 1 and Sept. 30.
Singer/songwriter James McMurtry--who recently took Song of the Year and Album of the Year honors at the 2006 Americana Music Awards--has released a rough mix of a new protest song dubbed "God Bless America," which he's made available as a free download via the Compadre Records website.
"I had meant to wait until I was finished overdubbing before putting this song out, but our brave legislators have once again outdone themselves in their acquiescence to the executive by passing the detainee bill," McMurtry, the son of author Larry McMurtry, said in a press release. "We refer to foreign governments that employ all-powerful executive branches as dictatorships, but we're still supposed to think of our own government as democratic. I'm appalled at the spinelessness of Republican legislators. I guess they still think they'll be invited to the feast. They will be, but only if they continue to watch their mouths."
A family judge in Massachusetts reportedly issued an arrest warrant for Bobby Brown after the singer failed to show up for a Monday (10/2) court hearing regarding delinquent child support payments. Brown's wife, Whitney Houston , recently filed for separation from him.
