The Who To Play Internet Network's Launch Party

Another gig has been added to The Who 's growing 1999 itinerary. This time, the occasion will be the Las Vegas launch party for pixelon.com, which parent company Pixelon Inc. is billing as the first online broadcast network featuring full-screen, television-quality video and audio.

The Oct. 29 event at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino has been dubbed iBash '99, and Pixelon claims it is spending $10 million to throw the party. The festivities will be webcast on Pixelon's website, but will be viewable only by those who download the company's free Pixelon Player.

Tickets for the show will go on sale ''shortly,'' and all proceeds from The Who's performance will be donated to an unidentified charity, according to a Pixelon press release issued Tuesday (10/12).

The company plans to announce details of additional iBash '99 performers and activities over the next three weeks. Ithas promised a lineup of top rock, pop and alternative musical acts.

''The Internet today is an extremely exciting medium for any artist,'' The Who's Roger Daltrey said in a statement. ''Pixelon is certainly doing some extremely high quality work and broadband visual technology is certainly the wave of the future.''

From Las Vegas, The Who is scheduled to travel to Mountain View, Calif., to perform Oct. 30 and 31 at the Bridge School Benefit.

The Who is also scheduled to play benefit shows Nov. 12 and 13 at the House Of Blues in Chicago. Tickets to the Nov. 12 show will be distributed via lottery at the venue's box office on Oct. 16.
