Florida gets a pair of Jimmy Buffett dates
As loyal Parrotheads wait for the impending release of a new Jimmy Buffett studio album, the artist has added two Florida concerts to his fall itinerary.
The new dates are set for Nov. 14 in West Palm Beach and Nov. 16 in Tampa, and if his recent pattern of sporadic touring continues, more November dates could emerge soon.
Buffett is currently scheduled to play a total of six shows in October and November, and tickets for all dates are currently on sale. Details are in the itinerary below.
The upcoming shows will support "Take the Weather With You," Buffett's first new studio album since 2004's "License to Chill." The album, due in stores on Oct. 10, is billed by Buffett's Mailboats Records label as a return to his "country foundation with breezy ballads, interpretations of alt-country songs, a version of Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings" and mariachi horns in "Cinco De Mayo in Memphis."
The album also houses a cover of Mary Gauthier's "Wheel Inside the Wheel," featuring slide guitarist Sonny Landreth. "That song summed up the French Quarter when I was 18 years old," Buffett said in a statement. "Without realizing it, I went to my roots on this record. It's not a stretch for me to do country music."
Another track on the set, the ballad "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On," addresses the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Buffett wrote the song with former drummer Matt Betton.
"When the storm hit New Orleans, I was performing at Wrigley Field in Chicago." Buffett said. "I go back to the emotions I was feeling on stage there during the biggest show of my life. That spilled over into this record. People still don't understand the devastation along the Gulf Coast. I was angry and started writing about it, but Matt sent me the first makings of 'Move On' and that calmed me down."
The album also features the Mark Knopfler-penned track "Whoop De Doo," on which the former Dire Straits member makes a guest appearance.
Every show on Buffett's current tour is airing live on Margaritaville, Buffett's signature Sirius Satellite Radio channel. Each of the commercial-free concerts includes a 30-minute pre-show broadcast from backstage, featuring music and interviews with Buffett or members of his band, according to a press release issued earlier this year.
In addition to his concert dates, Buffett is also scheduled to appear on the Oct. 8 episode of The Food Network's "Emeril Live," as well as the Oct. 12 edition of NBC-TV's "The Today Show," according to his Margaritaville website.
