Briefly: Latin Grammys, American Music Awards, Beyonce, The dB's

Pop-singer Shakira nabbed six nominations to lead the field for the seventh annual Latin Grammys , which will be handed out Nov. 2 in New York City.

Among Shakira's nominations were nods in the Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Record of the Year categories.

Singer/Songwriter Ricard Arjona, Argentine rock star Gustavo Carati and Mexican pop artist Julieta Venegas picked up four nominations apiece.

The awards ceremony will be televised live by Univision.

Jimmy Kimmel will serve as host of this year's American Music Awards , marking his third year at the helm of the ceremony. He most recently hosted the event in 2004.

Among the acts confirmed to perform at the Nov. 21 ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles are Beyonce , Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige and Josh Groban. The show will air live on ABC.

Beyonce will make her first-ever trip to West Africa to headline the first night of the inaugural THISDAY Music Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, according to a press release issued by her label.

The two-day event celebrates Nigeria's 46th year of independence. Other acts scheduled to appear on the first night include Jay-Z, Ciara and En Vogue; day two will feature Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes.

On Nov. 21, roots-rockers The dB's will issue the third incarnation of a Christmas album that first saw the light of day in 1996.

The dB's & Friends' "Christmas Time Again" has grown from an initial seven-song LP on Coyote Records, to a 17-song CD in 1993, and finally into the forthcoming 23-song edition, to be issued by Collectors' Choice Music.

Additions to the new collection include Peter Holsapple's "Home for the Holidays," performed by The dB's (with special guest Caitlin Cary); "Christmas Time Is Here" by Thad Cockrell and Roman Candle; "Lonely Christmas" by Marshall Crenshaw; two tracks by R.E.M. producer Don Dixon ("I Saw Three Ships" and "Christmas Is Saturday"); and a previously unreleased track by Ryan Adams & Whiskeytown titled "Houses on the Hill."
