Godsmack taps Breaking Benjamin, books more shows

Boston-based rockers Godsmack have recruited Breaking Benjamin to hold down the opening slot on their upcoming tour, added a horde of new dates to the run.

The previously announced fall trek, which launches in mid-October, now includes about 20 additional bookings that stretch from late October through early December. Details are included below.

Godsmack will launch the headlining jaunt with an Oct. 14 performance at the Shiner Bocktober Fest in Texas, and Breaking Benjamin will jump on board at the tour's second show, set for Oct. 19 in Connecticut.

As previously reported, Godsmack is currently in the mist of a joint tour with fellow Massachusetts native Rob Zombie. That outing--which touches down tonight (9/21) in Morrison, CO--wraps up on the West Coast at the beginning of October.

Godsmack is working the road behind its latest album, "IV," which surfaced in April. The set, which spawned the hit single "Speak," debuted in the top slot on The Billboard 200 album chart after selling about 211,000 copies during its first week out.

Frontman Sully Erna produced the new disc, and engineered the set with Andy Johns, whose credits include "Led Zeppelin IV," Van Halen's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and The Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main Street."

"Producing a record is mainly making sure everything is perfect--from the songs to the studio that you're recording in, to the microphone used on the drums, to using the right engineer," drummer Shannon Larkin told LiveDaily during an interview earlier this summer. "Sully's always been the guy. When you're first starting out, the label won't let you produce your own record, basically. They'll assign someone to you. ... Basically, we're paying someone $100,000 to $150,000 to come in and produce. If you can do it yourself and save that money, why not do it yourself? In the end, it's wasted money when you have a producer n the band."

Earlier this month, Godsmack picked up four nominations for this year's Boston Music Awards, capturing nods for Act of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year ("Speak") and Best Hard Rock Band. The awards will be handed out Sept. 27.

Breaking Benjamin is supporting its August release, "Phobia," which features the cut "The Diary of Jane." The set follows the band's platinum-certified 2004 set, "We are Not Alone."

Zombie is touring behind "Educated Horses," his first new collection in almost five years. The disc features the cut "Foxy Foxy," which grabbed enough traction at rock radio to help usher the album to a No. 5 debut on The Billboard 200.
