Deftones to drop new album, mount tour
Alt-metal vets Deftones are set to deliver their latest album, "Saturday Night Wrist," and have begun laying out dates for a fall tour behind the set.
The group's tour plans begin with a pair of late-October, pre-release shows, including an Oct. 27 headlining set at the LG Action Sports World Championships in Dallas. More information about that event is posted at the LG Action Sports website.
A half-dozen theater dates so far are scheduled for November. Details are included below.
On Halloween, Deftones will release "Saturday Night Wrist," their first release since a 2003 self-titled set. Bassist Chi Cheng told LiveDaily during a recent interview that the group hit some turbulence while making the new disc.
"We always go in with the right intentions," Cheng said. "'All right, we're going to get it done really quick.' Never happens. We're pretty meticulous. This time, a lot of things got in the way. I don't know. [Frontman] Chino [Moreno] disappeared with his side project [Team Sleep] for awhile. I think he was unsure whether or not his heart was into it. He got into it, so everything's OK."
The group worked with noted rock producer Bob Ezrin on the set, a collaboration that apparently led to some friction between Moreno and Ezrin, according to Cheng.
"Bob Ezrin produced it musically, which was a great honor," Cheng said. "I wouldn't say he and Chino got along so hot. So Chino finished his vocals with Shawn Lopez, who used to play guitar for Far. We recorded all over. Every Deftones album seems to be long and onerous."
"Saturday Night Wrist" features the cut "Hold in the Earth," which is currently available through iTunes, and is streaming via the band's online media player.
