The Fiery Furnaces order up new round of 'Tea'
Indie-rock sibling duo The Fiery Furnaces will head back out on the road in October fora little more than two weeks of newly scheduled dates in support of their recent "Bitter Tea" album.
The Illinois natives--brother and sister Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger--toured earlier this summer around the disc's release date. The new shows will mostly take the pair to cities they missed on the previous tour, kicking off with an Oct. 18 date in Providence, RI.
The Furnaces' itinerary includes an Oct. 22 slot at the eclectic Arthurfest music festival in Los Angeles. The four-day event--organized by the event's namesake, Los Angeles-based magazine Arthur--will feature more than 30 acts spread over four nights, highlighted by sets from Devendra Banhart, Be Your Own Pet, Sun Ra's Arkestra and others. The full schedule of performers can be found at the magazine's website.
The Furnaces' schedule also includes several dates with San Francisco art-rockers Deerhoof , whose recently completed eighth album, "Friend Opportunity," is due for release in January.
Released in April, "Bitter Tea" was recorded at the same time as the duo's previous album, "Rehearsing My Choir," and was originally intended to accompany that disc with a similar release date. While "Choir" was a narrative-based album featuring the Friedberger's grandmother, Olga, reminiscing about her life to musical accompaniment, "Bitter Tea" contains more conventional song structures, albeit with the Furnaces' typically experimental flavor.
"['Rehearsing My Choir'] was supposed to sound like an older person's living room," Matthew Friedberger told Rolling Stone in April. "'Bitter Tea' is a very girly record: bouncy and full of candy-colored sounds."
