New Releases, Aug. 22: OutKast, Paris Hilton, Danity Kane
Plus: Lamb of God , Maná, more
OutKast
"Idlewild"
(La Face)
Having most recently released what amounted to two solo records bundled together as one band effort, 2003's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," Big Boi and Andre 3000 once again join forces on this soundtrack. This marks the first time the duo has rhymed together since 2000's "Stankonia."
The album also features a number of guest stars, including Scar and Snoop Dogg. There is a tremendous amount of excitement about the album's first single, "Mighty O."
"Idlewild," the film, opens on Aug. 25 and stars OutKast, along with Ving Rhames, Terrence Howard, Patti LaBelle, Malinda Williams, Macy Gray, Ben Vereen and Cicely Tyson.
Amid all this activity, rumors have been spreading that OutKast is breaking up. The band has denied those rumors.
Paris Hilton
"Paris"
(Warner Bros.)
For years, Paris Hilton has been one of the most photographed and famous celebrities in the world. Pundits would say that she really hasn't done anything to earn that degree of fame--other than seemingly appear at every party under the sun. Hilton will attempt to change that perception with the release of her debut CD.
Like with everything else Paris Hilton related, the star is receiving a huge amount of attention with this release. The first single from the album is "Stars are Blind," the popular video for which shows a bikini-clad Hilton frolicking on the beach. The disc also contains the song "Fightin' Over Me," featuring Fat Joe and Jadakiss, as well as a cover of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy."
Danity Kane
"Danity Kane"
(Bad Boy)
The stars of MTV's "Making the Band 3" will try to make the jump from the small screen to the Billboard charts by releasing their major-label debut.
Danity Kane's five vocalists/dancers--Dawn, Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon and Aundrea--were chosen during a talent show-style competition and then honed into a marketable act under the watch of Sean "Diddy" Combs. Diddy served as executive producer on the set, which also features production work by such top names as Timbaland and Mario Winans.
The album's first single, "Show Stopper," is getting good reviews and receiving a lot of attention on the band's official MySpace page.
Lamb of God
"Sacrament"
(Sony)
These Virginia-based metal-heads return with their first new studio offering since 2004's "Ashes of the Wake." To support the CD, Lamb of God will join Megadeth, Opeth, Arch Enemy and others on the gigantic Gigantour Tour. The North American portion of that tour is set to kick off on Sept. 6 in Nampa, ID, and is currently scheduled to end on Oct. 8 in Sunrise, FL.
Maná
"Amar Es Combatir"
(WEA Latina)
The mega-popular rock en español act returns with its ninth studio album and its first since 2002's "Revolución de Amor." The album was produced by Mana and Tom Russo (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Audioslave) and features a duet with JLGuerra.
